Animation is Calling You!
Annie Laks (VP at Paramount Studios Animation), Maggie Malone (Head of Creative Affairs, Disney), Karen Toliver (SVP at 20th Century Fox Animation), Coral Wright (Production Executive, Hasbro), Janet Wu (Creative Executive, Walt Disney Animation Studios)
Do you write stories with heart? Do you write comedy? Do you like larger-than-life stories that tackle deep emotional truths? Do you write plays, graphic novels or TV pilots? Do you like talking to people more than working alone in your study?
Then animation writing is for YOU! From Zootopia and Moana to Smurfs and Spongebob and from Ice Age to My Little Pony, Animated Features and television series gross billions of dollars annually and are the proud cornerstone of many of the motion picture studios. But even though these movies are major tentpole films, they often begin as open writing assignments and are staffed by yet-to-be-produced writers and writers of independent films, stand-up comediennes and novelists.
Come listen to the executives across the major animated film studios, along with executives from animated television, who read the incoming agency submissions. They will describe what they look for in writing samples and in general interviews with writers, and talk about the skillsets needed to succeed in animation. Further discussion will address how to approach notes and work collaboratively with directors, executives and story artists.
