Emilia Serrano

TV writer

Biography

Obsessed with television and commercials from an early age, her mariachi-singing mom and mechanic dad encouraged her to write and play soccer, but by the time she entered college, her speed of writing was better than her speed on the field.

it’s no surprise Emilia got her first start as a copywriter at Digitas, working on digital campaigns for global brands while she still pursued her love of scriptwriting. Knowing she needed to devote more time to scripts, she became an advertising freelancer for several years foolishly thinking she could have a work/life balance. The big changes happened when she applied to the NHMC Latino Writers Program, and when she found a mentor in Noah Hawley (Showrunner, FARGO). He hired her for MY GENERATION (abc) and from there she’s written for RIZZOLI & ISLES (tnt), THE FINDER (fox), CRISTELA (abc), and recently sold a half-hour comedy, THE BETTER HALF (abc). Emilia is repped by ICM and Brillstein Entertainment. She’s currently developing other shows while raising two selfish white kids with her geeky husband. Emilia still plays soccer because the shoes still fit.
