Media critic Jennifer L. Pozner is journalist, author, and Founding Director of the media justice group Women In Media & News (WIMN). Based in Brooklyn, NY, WIMN increases women’s presence and power in public debate through media analysis, media education, and media advocacy. Her first book, Reality Bites Back: The Troubling Truth About Guilty Pleasure TV, has been called “required reading for every American girl and woman” by MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry, and “insightful, funny, fun” by Cecelia Lederer, comedian and writer for “The Colbert Report.” Her work has appeared in the New York Times, Newsweek, Ms. , Macleans, Bitch, Salon, The Daily Beast, and Politico, among many other news outlets and anthologies.
She has offered media commentary on CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, FOXC, HLN, NPR and CBC… and “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” And, because she’s a glutton for punishment, she has gone head to head with some of the most blustery boys of cable news, including Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Joe Scarborough. In addition, she has served as an advisor and featured analyst for several documentaries, including the award-winning OWN film Miss Representation. An incurable comedy nerd, Pozner produced and co-wrote “Reality Rehab with Dr. Jenn,” a media literacy satire web series that is being used in classrooms across the United States and Canada.
As a media literacy educator, Pozner has spoken and facilitated workshops on gender, race, class, and sexuality in the media at more than 300 schools, NGOs, conferences, and businesses across the U.S., Canada, Ireland, and Turkey. She conducts media trainings for gender and racial justice groups including Women for Afghan Women, SPARK, NOW, YWCA, Hollaback, Planned Parenthood, Chicago Foundation for Women, and Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario, among others.
Forbes named @jennpozner one of “20 Inspiring Women To Follow On Twitter.”
