Everyone eats – and now it seems that everyone wants to tell a story of how and why they eat what they do. However, the world of food writing has jumped beyond navel gazing and telling tales of tugging on your grandmother’s apron strings. From food justice and culinary historians to restaurant criticism, the world of food writing can seem like a deep, murky bowl of soup and it’s often difficult to discern what opportunities lurk beneath the surface. We’ll talk about finding your niche in the world of food writing and how to identify a great story and match it with a paying market. Participants will leave with story ideas and a road map for what to do with them. We’ll also talk about the similarities and differences between food writing and travel writing, and additional opportunities there.
