Yana Calou

Writer and Media Activist


Yana Calou is a queer non-binary Brazilian-American writer and media activist whose work has appeared in Gaslight, Foglifter, No Dear, and has a forthcoming piece in the Visceral Cartographies anthology. Yana doesn’t read anything because they are eternally working on their thesis at the CUNY Graduate Center where they also serve the Programs & Events Manager at CLAGS Center for LGBTQ Studies and are conducting an oral history project on the first women’s studies program at CUNY. Yana has performed at the Pop-up Museum of Queer History, La MaMa, Dixon Place, and BAX, and they’re on the board of the MIX Queer Experimental Film Festival and an advisor for the Queer Survival Economies Initiative at the Barnard Center for Research on Women.
